Well here's today's blog yeehaw!

Friday...

When Pam got home from work we headed over to my parents. We all went there for my brother-in-law Jeremy's birthday. We had cake and food and stuff. He got some sweet cd's and DVD's. Pam an I gave him two books. He's a big Lord of the Rings fan so We go thim the hardcovers of "The Silmarillon" and "The Book of Lost Tales". Both were written by J.R.R. Tolkein and take place in middle-earth. We stayed over at my mom and dad's that night.

Saturday...

Saturday we got up, made breakfast and went over to visit my dad at the new house that they are building. It's amazing and it is big. I want it. Anyway it's next door to my Grandma and Grandpa so Pam and I went over to visit them and Grandpa even let Scooter in the house and played with him. We left and had lunch at mom and dad's before leaving for Owen Sound. We did a little shopping in the mall, then headed to Pam's parents. We had supper and went for a drive to Wiarton with her brother Kevin. Then we rented "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "The Recruit" before going to sleep there.

Today...

We got up and made breakfast. Then we loaded our stuff and Scooter into the van and headed to Hanover. There I met up with Kevin Clorey, a great comic artist, and his co-creator friend Tom Muzzel, whom I met for the first time. They operate under the name Dark Delicacy Press. Everything went really well. I think we're all on the same page. It looks like SMASH! Comics and Dark Delicacy Press will be co-publishing a one-shot comic this summer. Then Pam and I went shopping in Hanover, took a drive through Walkerton and then headed home. I made supper and now I have to get off this computer so that I can go watch the Simpsons!

See y'all tommorow...

PENANCE BLOG...

What up my peeps? This weekend was a whirlwind. Here's my blog to make up for missing yesterday.

Movie Reviews

Kangaroo Jack - Okay, I never intended to watch this movie, it just happened to be on the movie channel. That being said it was nowhere near as stupid as the trailers made it look. Anyone who sees the commercials for this movie would think it was about a couple of numbskulls chasing a talking kangaroo dressed as a hip-hop fan. However this is not what the movie is about. The entire trailer for this movie was made from one, two minute sequence in the movie where lead actor Jerry O'Connell was slowly dehydrating in the desert and began to halucinate. This is one of the rare examples where a movie studio ruined the image of a movie by making commercials that had nothing to do with the story line.

What this movie is actually about is a young man, played by Jerry O'Connell, who's mother marries a mob boss (Christopher Walken). He and his best friend are forced to go to Australia to deliver a package for his step-father. The two go along with this out of fear of the mobster. The package contains $50,000 to pay for a mob hit. On their journeys in the outback the two young men accidentally hit a kangaroo with their jeep.  The young man is upset and remorseful, but his friend is much more morbid and decides that it would be fun to dress the dead Kangaroo in his sunglasses and jacket and take funny pictures before burying it.

Suddenly the Kangaroo moves! They realize that the Kangaroo was only dazed, but not before it takes off wearing the young man's jacket, with the $50,000 in its pocket! The young men travel all over the god forsaken outback chasing the kangaroo in the red jacket. Along the way they are helped by a beautiful young anaimal expert and hunted by various groups of mobsters. No where near as bad a movie as I expected.

Pirates of the Caribbean - In this swashbuckling adventure Johnny Depp plays the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow. While trying to commandeer a ship Sparrow is imprisoned by the local authorities who enjoy nothing more than hanging pirates. When a mysterious pendant draws a crew of bloodthirty pirates into the town the townsfolk are subjected to a near all-out slaughter. The pirates make off with the daughter of a local governor and leave Depp to rot in jail. Luckily a local swordsmith played by Orlando Blume is in love with the girl and knows that Jack Sparrow is the only man crazy enough to help save her. The two strike an uneasy alliance and cast off to rescue the girl and confront the evil pirates.

Pirates of the Caribbean movie poster

The pirates themeselves are subjects of a terrible ancient curse, in order to free themselves they need the blood of a pirate who is not one of their own. Could the swordsmith's history have held adventure on the high seas? What is Jack Sparrow's connection to this lot of damned sea men? Check this one out and you'll know the answers!

Well, I gotta go write today's blog now...

Press Releases…

Anyone interested can find my press release regarding the new SMASH! Comics website posted by Hero Realm at:

http://herorealm.infopop.cc/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=5651063&f=7501094&m=905102572

Radio…

Well, it’s a good thing I got so excited. They decided to push back my interview on AM 560 until sometime on Monday. No worries through, this is actually a good thing. Know why? Because they’ve decided to air the interview on all of their affiliate station sat different times! So on Monday my interview will appear on CFOS AM 560, CFPS AM 1490, MIX 106. 5 FM, Country 93.7 FM, and Rogers Cable at 107.3 FM! Even if you don’t get any of those stations you can listen to live feeds of all of them on the internet at http://www.sightconnections.com/radio/ontario.htm

Glimpse…

Independent Glimpse is going well! Issue #1 is effectively sold out; I actually have to go back to the printer to fill some orders. Issue 2 will start appearing online on Monday and ship in print form the Monday after that.

Issue #2 will be the Top Shelf issue! There’ll be lots of Top Shelf product in the catalog plus a feature interview with James Kochalka!

Rosie’s wedding…

Ooh! Big controversy over Rosie O’Donell’s lesbian marriage. I say good for her! George Bush and everyone else should shut the hell up and quite getting their panties in a bunch over gay marriages. Bush is an idiot. Does he not realize that the gay people in the US are also voters? Hell I’m not even gay and I can see how stupid this argument is. I wonder though, did Rosie do it for what she believed in, or for the attention?

Janet’s Boob…

I finally get it! I never saw any of the pictures of the Janet Jackson super bowl flash until someone e-mailed it to me. Now I understand. I wondered why the hell all the fuss was. I thought she was wearing sticker over her nipple. Not so. It was an actual silver thing. It was like a metal sun made out of something silver, except there was no center of the sun, it looks to be held on by her nipple which sticks out from a hole in the center. I wonder what would have happened if her nipples weren’t erect? Would it have fallen off?

It’s still being blown way out of proportion, but not as much as I thought it was now. Hell I say more bare breasts on TV! I say topless cheerleaders at next years super bowl. There’s no way that Justin didn’t know. That said however I think out of all the double talk one thing is true, Jackson’s own publicity people stirred it into a mush bigger controversy and news item than it would have been if they had just let the people react without that influence.  Either way anyone who hasn’t moved past caring at all needs to get a life.

Anyway, gotta run!

HOLY UNEXPECTED UPDATE!

Sorry folks I had to add this on after I had already done today's blog.

When I went to pick up Pam from work today Crystal from CFOS called and left a message. She let me know that her programming manager told her that my interview would air tommorow. It will only be a few minutes and put into the news segment rotation. The news segment is done every hour. My interview won't be in all of the segments, but will be in a few throughout the day. There is no specific times that she knows though. So, for anyone out there in listening distance you'll be able to tune in tommorow to CFOS AM 560 and hear my interview about SMASH! Comics and the SMASH! website at several times throughout the day! CFOS broadcasts out of Owen Sound Ontario.

Comic Readers…

You may notice I haven’t posted anything about my reviews for comicreaders.com in awhile. Here’s why: My editor, the small press editor, is still in his vacation until next week. In the meantime, Chad, the mainstream editor is doing a bang-up job, but is drowning in updates for his section, not to mention trying to keep Dana’s (my editor) section updated.

So I told Chad that there is no rush and he can get to the stuff I’ve sent in whenever he gets the time. I’ve also sent him some mainstream reviews which I need to revise and send back. I’ll be sure to post the links here when Chad is able to get his head above water again or when Dana gets back!

Snow

Yay! The snow is going away. The banks are slowly shrinking! It’s supposed to go up to 2 degrees ABOVE today! Up to 9 by Sunday! Woohoo!

We did however have a light dusting of snow this morning. These new snow flakes look weird. They are like really long really thin grains of rice. They look fake. It’s freaky. What is up with that?

Toilet

I meant to mention this on Tuesday. Earlier this week Steve cam and was finally able to find enough parts to fix the toilet. It’s nice. For the first time in almost 3 weeks we can flush the toilet without having to reach into the tank and do it by hand. We got a spiffy new lever too! Apparently our toilet is some kind of foreign design no one has seen or has parts for. So, Steve had to track down a kit for converting it form that design to a normal design and rebuild the entire inside of the tank. Thanks god it is done! FLUSH!

Movie Review

Once Upon a Time In Mexico This movie continues the story of El Mariachi. The character played by Antonio Banderas in Desperado. In this movie El Mariachi and his lover Carolina have gone into hiding, moved on to new lives, gotten married, and had a child. A lot of time elapses and one day some mysterious men come to the Mariachi’s village looking for him. The Mariachi is stirred from his hiding and forced to pick up his weapons once again by the thugs that have come for him. The men work for Johnny Depp’s character, who is a corrupt CIA agent looking to take advantage of a developing government coup that he has inside knowledge of. Depp’s girlfriend is a corrupt Mexican federal police officer played by Eva Mendes.

Once Upon a Time in Mexico Movie Poster

On top of it all there is a Mexican gangster, played by Willem Dafoe, who plans on taking advantage of the political the coup and assassination of the Mexican president. Depp’s character believes that Dafoe’s character is an easy pawn, but the gangster is craftier than Depp realizes. As if that didn’t leave enough room for tons of plot twists and turns there are even more characters played by recognizable stars. Mickey Rourke plays a double crossing American gangster stuck in the service of Dafoe’s character, an ex-FBI agent is enrolled as a back-up pawn by Depp’s character, El Mariachi has two friends who help him to turn the tables on all of the criminals, one played by Enrique Iglesias, a Mexican general who organized the over through and murder of the president and also has a score to settle with the Mariachi, and Salma Hayek reprises her role as Carolina.

Oh, Cheech Marin also appears in the sequel, this time as a one-eyed gangster. The huge guy with the knives in the original movie also returns as one of Depp’s thugs.

Although this sequel has made a point of showing off its much larger budget than the original I don’t think it made for a better movie. It was good, but it was no Desperado. Although full of stars it wasn’t quite as good. I found the higher special effects budget distracting, mostly because the fight scenes were overdone and over the top. I think they could have been done better. Whereas there were only two well known stars in the first one, the sequel seems to have so many that it’s hard to keep track of all of them.

Depp, Banderas, Mendes, Hayek, and the FBI agent guy all did some great acting. This is the first time I could say I’ve ever been indifferent to a performance by Willem Dafoe. I found that Rourke, Iglesias, and the other Mariachi were unlikable, and unconvincing in their roles.

All-in-all a good Robert Rodriguez movie, worth checking out, but as my good buddy Andrew said, “It’s no Desperado”.

Well, I still got lots of work for today, FYI In case you didn't notice the trend from today and yesterday it looks like I'm going to be writing a lot of longer blogs for awhile. I have a lot to talk about!

Antonio Banderas in "Once Upon a Time in Mexico".

Merry zombie day to all and to all a good night...

Well I'm baaaaack!!!

The radio she is good to me...

Today just around lunch or so I got a call from a local radio station. It seems the press releases have finally worked on the local media! Crystal from CFOS AM 560 called me today and asked if she could do an interview. I said sure. It only lasted about 10 minutes. After they edit it it will probably be four. I probably sounded like an idiot because I was completely unprepared. SO here's the new lesson, always be prepared!

She was interested in the new website and SMASH! Comics in general so I plugged as many titles as I could and said a little personal message about the URL and stuff. SO that was cool. She said she's not sure when it will be aired, but she will let me know, and when I know I'll post it here. I made sure she knew I was always available if she had more questions as well.

Speaking of the press release...

Digital Webbing has posted the press release I sent out yesterday about the new SMASH! website. You can find it here: http://www.digitalwebbing.com/news/022404-3.html

Neighbours moved!...

The neighbours downstairs who got evicted officially moved today! YAY! They decided to smoke all their dope before they left and the stink filled the whole building, but even that went away later in the afternoon so I'm happy. Hahaha. Now we need to take care of that wench in the basement. She's pretty much cleaned up her act since Russ came in and told her what's what.

The first step to the new studio...

The first step to setting up my new art studio space began today. It started with me tunneling throught the rock hard snow to get to the shed out back. It's a great work area out there. Someone else used it for a painting studio at one time and the last maintenance person used it as a wood working shop. So it's got some great tables and storage racks already in it. It's still too early to start bringing the art supplies out. I did however bring out some of the various super hero type toys and statues from my office, as well as my hockey bag full of posters.

I hung up some Star Wars Episode 1 posters in front of the windows. I don't want anyone looking in there and wanting to steal my stuff! I also hung my Spider-man, Batman, Hulk, and Gladiator posters. Scoped out all the outlets and light fixtures. Theres a spot that's perfect for a dart board, I and I think I know where I"ll put my drawing table. I brought out most of my unused canvases. I've been hanging onto those for awhile. Hopefully once I get things all set up out there I'll make some much needed use of those. There's some spots where I want to put up some rack shelving. It's weird to think that half the stuff  in my office will be out there soon. I can't bring out the paints and inks and stuff yet because there's no heat out there. I look forward to freeing up the space.

Maybe I'll even store my comics out there! GASP!

It's a shame to think that I may get my studio all settled in out there and that we may still move when the lease is up at the end of July. I'm not sure which would be the best decision for the business. Pam wants to think about moving to Oshawa, That would be great and all, I'd be able to see Jay and Andrew all the time, but if the business starts to do well the change of address again may hurt the business growth. Plus if I get approved for this financing I may have to stay in Bruce county for up to 5 years. This is because this is a financing system that is supposed to promote and help businesses in BRUCE COUNTY. They may not like their money leaving town. We'll have to see how everything develops. Guess I can't have my cake and eat it too. If we do move I have to find a place with an extra room for an art studio.

Business Proposal/Application....

Still working at it. This thing is REALLY extensive. It's a good thing I'm familiar with this stuff from when I went to school. Right now I'm analysing the market and doing the competitive analysis for 10 different competitors in the same market. OY! It's really amazing when you think about it. DO you realize that 0.5% of the North American comics market share is worth 1.7 Million dollars? Geez! I lucked out and actually found a website that posts the particulars of each comic company. Their revenues etc. Amazing stuff. I think they all lie about what they actually make. The numbers are too low. When you compare what they say they make to what the whole industry made the market share percentages are lower than they should be. Oh well, no skin off my @$$.

Movie...

I finally got to see it last night!...But I don't have time for a review until tommorow!

Gotta go...

15 minute blog...

That's right folks, I have just 15 minutes or so to write this.

It's been another great day...

Here's why:

* A store from Kansas called up, ordered 100 copies of the Feb. and March issues of Glimpse, set up an account with me, and bought 3 ads! Sweet deal.

* James Kochalka finally sent back his interview response, and it's awesome. We're both big Hulk nuts!

*The super came in and told the filthy bitch downstairs to quit spreading her filth into the building or she's evicted.

*Lots of folks are interested in getting their books into Glimpse.

* My 5 page script with Makma Comics in France is now in production to be submitted to Digital Webbing Presents. Now the head of Makma wants me to try and work it into a series proposal so he can pitch it to Image through his studio.

* I'm really hyper from lack of food! (I've been to busy today to take a break!)

* Oh, and the I'm currently testing the Beta version of the new SMASH! Comics site online. The final version should be accesible to the public tommorow afternoon!

Once Upon a Time in MexiNo...

Well for the second time in 3 days my movie watching was pre-empted by shows on TV. We ended up not watching Once Upon a Time in Mexico, but watching back-to-back Simpsons and back-to-back Law & Order: CI instead. It was worth the trade off. JUST AS LONG AS WE WATCH THE MOVIE TONIGHT!

Ha-O- M- Ea-Er...

Oh god, is it possible that the Simpsons are getting funnier? Oh I love that show. I wanna be a warm hearted moron dad someday. I'm halfway there. Anyway, I missed last week. The commercials were saying one of the characters were going to leave the show forever. Who was it? Did anybody see?

Well, gotta run!

Hey everybody! Thanks for helping me gather stats info by using my vote caster and poll service in yesterday's blog. I won't be taking those polls down for another few days, so anyone reading this who didn't vote yesterday can still scroll down and cast your vote on a number of comics related topics.

I just want to mention to people that subscribing to this weblog is super easy and it means you'll never miss an entry! Just look to the left of this page, where the links are, and scroll down. Desperado and it's cousin Dusk Till Dawn...

I've seen both of these movies several times and never noticed this before. Most of the cast is the same. Starting with Desperado for a second. If you take out Antonio Banderas and put in George Clooney, then take out Steve Bucemi and insert a middle class white family of 3 you have the cast of Dusk till Dawn. There's nothing wrong with that mind you, they are both kick ass movies, I was just mentioning it because i just noticed when we watched it again last night. Not sure what I mean? Here's the people that are in both movies:

Salma Hayek, Quentin Tarantino, Cheech Marin, and all the mexican bad guys in Desperado are the same folks who play the mexican vampires in Dusk Till Dawn.

And both movies take place in Mexico. What does this mean. Movies that take place in Mexico rock.

Movie Review

Desperado movie poster,

Desperado - If you have never seen this movie I highly recommend going out and BUYING it! It's awesome and has an all-star cast. Antonio Banderas plays a lowly Mariachi musician whose wife was killed by gangsters, who also shot a whole through his hand, making him unable to play the guitar with which he earned his living. Giving into despair the Mariachi decides to spend his life waging a one man war on organized crime in Mexico until he can hunt down and kill the man who gave the order to kill his wife. His best friend is played by Steve Bucemi. It's Bucemi's job to stir up rumors and fear of this mysterious mariachi while he gathers information about where the mob boss they want dead might be at.

Soon an entire crime family is after the Mariachi, but that's not all, one of the local Dons has sent his own hitman to take care of things. Throw into the mix a beautiful young woman played by Selma Hayek. She and the Marichi take turns saving each others lives and quickly fall in love. The only problem is that her book store is a front for the mob boss that the Mariachi came to kill. Plus the Mariachi has some dangerous friends that he calls in for help, and there's a surprise twist when he finally comes face to face with his enemy. If you like violence and action movies this one is great!

Well, I gotta go watch Once Upon a Tim ein Mexico now!

Collecting the information...

The next step today is to post the link to my easy 10 question survey. Please help me collect this data so that I can get some government funding and such for my business so we can launch the revival of Captain Canuck! I really appreciate anyone who can take a minute and fill out this survey!

Free Vote Caster from Bravenet Free Vote Caster from Bravenet

As well folks, I've improved the mini-poll. Yesterdays poll was good and received a good response, but today I made it even better by adding 4 more questions for a new total of 10. Each time the page is displayed it loads one of 10 questions randomly. If you could take the time to cast one vote on one question it would help me greatly. If you wanna go the extra mile to can even hit the reload button on your browser and a new question will appear. Feel free to answer as many of the questions as you'd like! Again all this info helps for our presentation in order to get financing to launch the new Captain Canuck comic as well as other new projects. Thanks again!

Desporada nada...

Save the last dance was on TV last night and Pam decided she'd rather watch that then Desperado. So there was no movie fun for me last night. Save the last dance really kinda sucks. Oh, well, we got Desperado and the sequeal both as 7 night rentals, so I will see them. I also saw Tears of the Sun with Bruce Willis the other day. It's a good movie, but I don't have time to review it.

One thing about it is that where most of these movies build up to the event that brings about conflict this movie drops you right in at the start of the action. During the credits before the action starts the back story is explained by a two minute radio news report that someone is listening to. That was kind of unique. As well I liked that the movie makers resisted the urge to make every moment of rest an opportunity for a corny respressed love scene. All in all it was pretty good. The lead female is the french chick from "The Beach" who was also the psychic prostitute in "Brotherhood of the Wolf", which Pam and I re-watched the other night.

Applications and paper work....

All I can say is "Oy" or maybe "Oog". I've been at this for hours. Time to get back to it.

May the force be with you...

There are actually several different questions, one is loaded randomly when you open the page. If you want you can hit refresh and answer a different question! Thanks to eveyone who helps me with this! It's much appreciated!

Mike & Pam day...

Since Pam had today off she and I went into Kincardine, I talked with a few business people and then we went out for lunch. Then we went into Port Elgin and did some store browsing. Then we grabbed some groceries and came home very tired. While in Port Elgin we also went to the video store. I wanted to rent Once Upon a time in Mexico, but Pam hasn't even seen Desperado yet. How'd we solve that? I had a rent one get one free coupon! SO we rented Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico! Sweet! We'll probably only watch Desperado tonight. I love that movie. It's so awesome. Tommorow is paperwork all day!

Senility is setting in...

My memory is getting REALLY bad! It's like a siv. There was other stuff I was gonna write about but I forgot it. Now I can't think of anything important enough to write about. Let's hope tommorow is better.

Voting caster tommorow! Thanks all and have a great weekend!...

Thursday, February 19, 2004

Well, things are kinda slow today.

Website...

Well, I got leaps and bounds ahead on my web design today. The new SMASH! Page is about 3/4 done. I'll probably get it up on Monday or Tuesday.

Pam...

One of the things I really love about Pam. You see I've only really got one set of clothes that is casual/formal, good for relaxed business meetings. They were dirty from my meeting on Friday. They were mixed in with a giant pile of laundry we got behind on. On Monday I was freaking out because I realized I didn't have anything clean to wear when I was getting ready for my printer meeting on Monday. Just when I was freaking out the most I saw that Pam had washed my good clothes on Sunday night instead of the other stuff, and hung them up to dry. So I ended up having decent clothes to wear to the meeting after all.

Then there are other days where I want to pull my (her?) hair out. Today she had it pretty rough. Her boss is a horrible bitch and Pam is getting stressed. This week Pam has to work Saturday, but she gets tommorow off. So her and I will be having a day together and I'll do my Friday work on Saturday.

Government biz forms etc...

After the meeting I had yesterday I had to mail in some forms to a government agency today which I did. The original package of stuff I got form the first agency, the one that's helping with my business plan, is pretty extensive. It's actually kind of hilarious in a way too! Their entire package is exactly the same as one of my assignments I did when I was in school for marketing. So it should be easy. I can't exactly use my answers from my school assignment because it was based on a fictional business, but I think I have an advantage. What a lucky ass am I? This afternoon was going to be my "fill-in-the-paperwork-day" for that, but I just found it was too extensive with too many details I needed that weren't readily available. So I did some webpage work. Tommorow I'm gonna go in and see the guy anyway and ask a few questions. Then I'll have all day Saturday to work on all of this information!

Another note on business stuff...

A BIG, BIG part of this whole package and paperwork thing I have to fill in is statistics. In fact I have to, and am expected to, conduct my own surveys to gether information in order to support the fact that my business can turn a profit and that the government should help me. I'm really not sure where to start. The only solution I can come up with now that I can afford is to conduct my surveys here in this weblog. So I ask anyone who's reading this, please take a minute to fill out my surveys! Tommorow I'm going to post a mini-poll and Saturday I'm going to post a vote form. PLEASE help me collect data by answering them.

Mainstream Comics...

It's really sad to see some of your favorite comics go into a decline. The other day I picked up the new issues of Punisher and Hulk. I was gonna review them for comicreaders.com or for here, but there's only so much to say. I decided not to even bother. Punisher is just awful now. I can't even believe that it was written by Garth Ennis. It's extra sad cause this used to be one of my favorite books. The art is appaling as well. If this is the caliber needed to work at Marvel there should be a lot more people I know working there, cause I know a lot of people who can draw better than that. Hulk wasn't so bad, but close. The writing is god awful. Now they've made him huge and gargantuan like in the movie too. YUCK! He actually rips the roof off a house and reaches down to pull someone out of it. It makes me want to weep.

Well that's my two cents for today, CSI is on now!

Boiling, seathing cauldron of explosive, murderous rage...

Every single damn day I've gotten a call from the new printer about problems. And it's not even about the new comics. It's about Glimpse. They keep running into stupid problems because they're morons. I've been having to help them troubleshoot over the phone over every little thing. AND IT'S NOT EVEN ON COMPUTER DISK! I gave then the flat layed out pages on 8 1/2" X 11" EXACTLY as they are to be printed. Today they said I had to come look at it. I drove all the way there to show them how to put pages in order...using the numbers on the pages! HOLY SHIT! These are people who can't even handle printing a small mini-comic! And these are supposed to be the professionals I'm trusting to print my comics? What a bunch of retards! What a complete waste of my time and gas money. I'll soon be looking for a new printer....

Before that...

I drove my fool ass to Walkerton today. I had to meet with one of the government agencies that I'm hoping will help with getting some government financing. I decided to head straight to the printer in Port Elgin from Walkerton before going home. I thought; "hey' I'll just follow the road signs". Mistake. The road signs take you about 20 minutes south of Port Elgin. I was actually a hell of a lot closer to home then where I wanted to be. Ended up having to back-track to get to the printer.

Before, before that...

As much as I bitch about getting sick of computers I was able to get some work done on the SMASH! site before I left.
