I'm tired and brain dead today. There are some meaningful things I could have written if I had done this first thing this morning, but I'm really not into it now. Tired. Shoveled through 4 feet of snow today on the front walkways. I'm way backed up for reviews, but oh.well, I'll get to them soon.
For now I'll post a montage of photos, yay!
Today's Sponsor:

The following images were taken this morning before I shoveled:

This was our front step.

This was the walkway to the van.
Now Here's after I shoveled!

Our front step after shoveling

The walkway to the van after shoveling.
Interesting note. The highway has been closed for 4 days! On Thursday they announced that the plows couldn't move the snow back any further and had to bring in snow REMOVAL equipment and vehicles to take the snow away altogether. Now they are saying that the reason that the highway is still closed is that there is so much snow the weight is breaking the removal equipment. Holy jeebus!
And now, I'll finish up with a couple shots of Scooty!

You can't really tell, but in this shot Scooter is taking a pee in the snow!

Scooter standing on a six foot snow drift. This shot was at a bad angle, it makes him look kind of ugly, but he's really not!
Anywho, it's time to move along, get outta here ya rumy!
Mike
Well holy crap! The friggin snow hasn't stopped. It's been storming for 3 days. This sucks ass!
I'm still pissed about the whole Steve thing. Even more now. The worst part is I get along great with him as a friend, but he's a goddamn shyster when it comes to pay. The worst part is that I know he's got more work for me and I'll take it because it's paying work. AAAAAAAAAA!

Well fate seems dead set against me writing this damn crossover classics review, so I'll do it sometime when I have more time and add a couple other reviews too. Speaking of reviews you dorks have been busting my chops about comic reviews so, let it be known that from now one any NEW (or close to new) indie comics that I review will consist of rankings and be a minimum of 300 words. Plus they WON'T be posted here. You can now find my reviews of new indie comics at www.comicreaders.com which is updated every Sunday! This Sunday you can find my reviews for: Happy: Zirkus, Flaming Wingnut Comics #2, and Miss.Dynamite: Special Edition #1. In future other types of reviews may be moved here too!
Workload, This week has been horrible. Last week I was ahead of schedule. This week there have been so many disruptions that even though I purposly arranged to have less to do I'm up to my eyeballs in backlogged work. AAA!
The Poll, the data posted in the actual poll is off, this is because I forgot to properly clear the data when I changed the question. Rest assured that I did however keep track of the number of votes on my own as well so here are the results: On the question "What do you like about my weblog?" 100% of respondents said "Details about my personal life" Sweetness. Now on the Question "What don't you like about my weblog?" 100% of respondents said "Comics News & Info". All I can say to that is: What the hell? What do you expect? You're on the weblog of an indie comic writer and publisher. Geez!
Anyway we rented some movies so I'll go watch them now.
Poit!...
Mike
Well folks the time is now for your enlightenmnet!

Poll...
SO I've gotten some interesting results form yesterday's poll. Today I will ask the opposite question, What don't you like about my weblog? Whether you read it regularily or not, let me know! I'll announce the answers tommorow!
Work...
Things are going okay. like I said it's only part time. I won't be working tommorow. Steve will be finishing up a few things downstairs. Things are kind of weird. Steve is a hard guy to figure out. One second he seems pissed, the next he's fine. He's a really great guy to socialize with, but not always easy to work with. I hesitate to call him a real contractor, he's really not that good. He made a lot of bad mistakes in the apartmant, and I feel like he's mentally shifted some of the blame to me, even though he didn't say anything. He's always complaining about how everything and how much time we spend there costs him money. He's more like a pretend contractor, but I sometimes feel self-conscios when working with him. Plus I've learned he's not exactly honest when it comes to paying. That all being said I'll take whatever work he gives me. It pays bills and rent. But I don't think this will be long term by any means. God I hope that things pick up with my comics, freelance work, promotion services etc.
FUCK I LOST MY WHOLE BIG REVIEW FOR CROSSOVER CLASSICS! I HATE COMPUTERS........
AAARRRGGGGG!!!! I'LL POST IT TOMMOROW!!!!!!!

Trade Review
Crossover Classics - THis is a collection of some of the original crossovers between Marval and DC Comics characters. The only way to do a real review onthis is to do 4 mini-reviews:
Superman Vs. The Amazing Spider-Man - In this first ever Superhero crossover Supervillains Doctor Octopus and Lex Luthor manage to become cell mates in a high security prison. The two quickly put thier large brain pans together and escape. Spider-man is duped into beliveing that Superman has kidnapped Lois Lane and Mary-Jane while Clark Kent, who;s in New York on an assignment, watches in disbelief
I'll finish this later...
Hell folks! Here's the fun an excitement segment! YAY! (don't forget to read my penance blog from earlier today!)

Hey is anyone familiar with the Google Open Directory? It's like google, but each site is submitted manually and listed in order of most visited form the site. Guess what? This very site is listed 18th in the DVD category! That means people actually come here to read my DVD reviews! Weird!
Thanks to this I have been entered into another new search engine called High Index. High Index is another search Engine, this one however only lists sites that are physically reviewed and rated by the search engine administrators! You can find my little old entry here:http://www.highindex.com/Reference/Dictionaries/By_Subject/Computers/

Now the previous bit of info was me wondering what people like about this site and why they come here. Jay says he likes the reviews, Pam and Andrew say they skip the reviews and read the bits about my personal life. Let me know what you think! Take my pole below! Whether you read this site regularily or not, or if it's your first time. I'd love to know, just tell what you like about this site! VOTE NOW!
folks, I gotta save the review for tommorow, it's of Crossover Classics which is a massive trade. No timefor that now! I'm starvin' and need to go eat supper!

PENANCE BLOG
Geez it's been like a month since I've had to do one of these! Oh well, hopefully after I explain my day yesterday you'll understand.
So we trecked out through the snow I just shovelled for an early morning appointment for Pam. It was supposed to take 2 hours max. I spent 4 hours waiting at the hospital! Then I had to take Pam somewhere to eat and drop her off at work. Making it home by 11:00 I decided not to start on my actual paying renovation work untill later. SO I did a bunch of comic and business work on the computer and then ate a late lunch while watching days of our lives.
Finally it's 2 pm and I go start on my work doing the renovations on the apartment downstairs. I was cocky. I had myself convinced I'd be done by 4, 5 at the latest to get everything done. At 5:30 I had to leave and was almost finished ripping out the tiles. My whole body hurt. I had to get Pam, get home, meanwhile Scooter had ripped apart the garbage and spread it across the apartmant. I had to go downstairs as I hadn't even started the painting yet. SO I finished the bathroom paint and then closed the place up. I still need to paint the closet, scrape the bedroom floor, touch-ups, put in a new toilet seat, and clean up all the broken tiles.
My body was broken and weary, so what did I do? You guessed it, I had to shovel out the walkways around the building again. SO I finally straggled into the apartment just after 8pm.
I was exhausted and decided that this was the night I would skip my blog and drawing.
I called Steve to tell him that all the major stuff is done, but I didn't get to the clean-up. He seemed fine with that. We were supposed to start real early this morning, but as luck would have it something came up and he won't be out here untill 1pm. SO around 11:30 or so I'll get started on everything and hopefully once he gets here the broken tiles won't take too long.
We've also now got a huge storm and all the roads are closed so Steve may not even be able to make it out. If not that's fine. It gives me more time to finish up and then we'll have to lay the new tile tommorow, it actually works out to give me more hours, so if Steve is storm stayed I won't be too dissapointed.
Remember the fun and exciting stuff I was gonna update ya'll on yesterday? Well I'll do that today instead, when I do today's blog.
Later...
Mike
Well howdy doo? I am back and I'm bad, I'm bad, you know it.....
Alright, enough of that. I'm a little simple today. See I got another submission finished for a publisher today, got the new Glimpse layout almost completely ready, and I started a new job.
Today's Sponsor:
Oh yes a new job. I'm working part-time for the contractor who is doing the renovations on our apartment building. I started this afternoon because his employee who was leaving for another job anyway had to unexpectedly leave early due to a family emergency. So, Steve (the contractor) was stuck, which it just so happens that I was going to ask him about any work he may have. Coincidentally we're acquantances from when he did my sink repairs and he was just on his way to see me and ask if I was still looking for work. So anyway I started this afternooon. We painted and ripped out kitchen tiles all afternoon.
Tommorow I have to finish ripping out the tiles and painting the closet and bathroom. Wednesday we put the new tiles in the kitchen and bathroom.
Because of this I didn't get all of my business work done today, but never fear. This is only a part-time job. Most days will only to be 3-4 hours at a time and probably not everyday. Steve specializes in doing very small jobs.
So I'll have to trim back my regular list of daily chores, but it shouldn't take long to adjust. The bonus is that with comic work pay usually takes awhile, this new job will provide immediate cashflow for bills and such. YAY!
Now.. HOW THIS ALL LED TO MY DOWNFALL..(literally)
So, since I was working all afternoon I didn't do my usual afternoon maintenance routine. I normally shovel the step a few times a day. This afternoon I didn't. After we were done and Steve left I took Scooter out to pee. The step looked fine so I didn't feel so bad about missing the shovelling. Then I got to the stairs. My feet went up and my head went down. I slipped down the stairs and hit every one on the way down. I landed on my left ankle, left ass cheek, left arm and right wrist. All are now swollen, bruised and very sore. Old man winter is one evil cocksucker. So I dragged my crippled ass up to my feet, shovelled and salted the step, and found Scooter who had snuck away in the commotion. Then I leaned on the kitchen counter in pain untill I could whine to Pam when she got home.
I'm such a manly man. I missed Days of our lives, but that's okay.
So I have a really good review to do, but I'm having one of those slow brain days so I think I'll do it tommorow, plus I feel a headache coming on.
I'll make sure that tommorow's entry is full of fun, excitement, and updates!
Going to lie down now.
BAMF!...
Mike
Hey all. SO we went over to my parents for the weekend. We all got together to celebrate my dad's birthday which is coming up on Tuesday. We has pizza and cake, and pie and stuff. I brought some DVD's and we ended up watching Boondock Saints.
This morning Dad and me went out to his bush property and went snow shoeing. Holy frigging work out! There was no packed in trails already, so we had to do all the hard work.
Then we came back and had lunch. Then we packed our crap up and headed to Owen SOund.
Pam went shopping at Wal-Mart and she got me a Tie Domi toque. Sweet!
Then we went ot Pam's parents. We talked, ate supper, watched some TV and then we left and came home.
Tried to call Andrew back and we watched the Simpsons. Now I'm trying to get this done ASAP so I can spend time with Pam cause she says she's bored.
I do think a game of fooseball is in order.

Breath...
Well well well, I'm trying to be mature about this, but I still want to post a message back to that mother fucker who posted the bad comment about my Captain Canuck press release. Problem is my password STILL hasn't arrived for the place in which he posted it. I know it shouldn't, but it's gnawing at my brain. AAAARG! Goddamn!
And so is the waste of our lives...
So for that show, Days of Our Lives. The damn story didn't end yesterday. They dragged the whole damn thing out through the whole episode so finally at the end Tony was dressed as a magician in center ring and about to announce who the killer was. Here's the problem. If this story doesn't end untill Wednesday that means Tony is toast on Monday before he can say it. That kind of sucks because he's one of the few characters who I don't want to die. They've really been setting it up for him to die in the last couple episodes though. More importantly, why the hell am I watching this show? I'm going to hell. This is the last update I will give untill that story is done and I can get back the hour of 1-2pm in my daily life.

Other TV...
I'm beggining to think that I should just stop watching all television altogether. I've always been pretty intuitive with story lines, but now it's gotten to the point where I know everything that's going to happen within the first 5 to 10 minutes of nearly every show I watch. I'm not exagerating or bragging. I don't know why this is. Is TV writing getting that predictable? Am I seeing these things more because I've been doing so much script writing myself lately? Is it something else? I don't know. What I do know is that I'm not alloweed to speak when Pam is watching a TV show now because she says it ruins it for her. I guess it's kind of like watching a show you haven't seen with someone who has and they keep talking about it. Anyways, this whole situation is giving me a distaste for a lot of shows because I don't need to watch them to know what happens. It makes me feel like no one does anything original, or tries to do anything original, anymore.
Drawerings...
Well I'm still working on cartooning. I've moved past head studies, I finished human and animal body studies , as well as the evil hands and feet section. I'm currently on the chapter dealing with incoporating the action line into your artwork. I must say I'm fine with the concept, I understand it. I find it works, but I'm unhappy with everything I've done from this chapter. I'm not sure why, but nothing I've drawn from this chapter looks exactly right. In all honesty, and I'm not trying to pass blame, but I'm not sure it's my fault. I've drawn everything the way it says to in this chapter and everything looks the same as the book. Problem is it seems that everything in the book in this chapter doesn't look quite right. It's like there is some common perspective mistake in everything, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
Someone once told me that I should develop my own style instead of learning how to draw in someone else's style. Although I do believe that is partly true, I have been out of the drawing end for so long that what I'm doing now is to re-teach myself how to do things properly before I begin to bend the rules and create my own style. I finished my one massive sketch book on Thursday, now I'm working in a smaller one I already had. Anyway, I'll post a couple of my action line pics and an older one too. Let me know what you think and what is off on the action line ones.

A puzzled horse.

An angry gorilla.

An annonymous fat french dude. (No it's not me!)
Well That's all for today.
Adios amigos...
Mike
Well Shiznit, am I ever Po'd. You know how I was talking about that story on Days of Our Lives yesterday? Well I heard it ends today, but Pam says she read somewhere that it won't end untill next Wednesday. That's 3 extra days I have to watch this crap. I'll let you know who's right in Tommorow's blog.
This morning I got this huge long e-mail from someone who wants to start their own small press comic company. I wrote up a huge long reply, but the net crashed the exact time I sent it. I hope it went through cause I don't want to write that thing all over again.
So I'm gonna start writing longer type reviews for www.comicreaders.com It's not official untill they approve a couple of my reviews first. I'll keep folks updated on that. Anything I review here will not be what I review there. They have guidelines there and I sure as hell will not write 2 reviews on one book. Rest assured my standards will stay inexplicably low for my reviews here. =)

Indie Reviews
Fire Proves Iron: 2002 Comicon Preview - This preview ashcan is published by Disgruntled Fanboy Comics and created by Page Malbrough and Michael C. Malbrough. There's a bit of background story, but the skinny is that the series takes place in the future. Mankind has split into two species. The dominant species is a race of grotesque cyborgs driven by greed. They live on the surface of the Earth. The rest of the human race lives in a subterraenean kingdom where they have turned into skinny mole like versions of their former selves. The conflict comes when the leader of the surface world begins to suduce the younger subterreanians into coming to the surface to either be turned into slaves or converted into cyborgs. The rest of the book is made up of pencilled pages of the work in progress. The art is beautiful and very impressive. I hope this one saw completion as I'd love to read the final product.
Dolls - This is one that I never get sick of re-reading. It was published by Sirius in 1996. The Story is by Lorenzo Bartoli and beautifully illustrated by Savario Tenuta. This story takes place in a not so distant future. Leonard Kaminsky is a dangerous man who is deeply in love. He's in love wiht his girlfriend Candy. Candy is actually an android rented from a company that produces living love dolls. The problem is that Leonard is behind on his rent for Candy. He's been warned three times. That means it's time for repossesion. The problem is that no one wants to lug a reposessed robot around, so hired thugs simply snap an android's neck and leave her there. This leads Kaminsky on a brutal rampage of revenge. He plans to work his way all the way up to the top and take out the head honcho himself. Words can't do this book justice. It's really good.
Mongrel - Another oldie, but a goody. This is a 3 issue mini-series published by Northstar (are they still around?) Northstar specialized in making some really good B&W horror and supernatural comics. Anyway, this mini series puts an amazing spin on a traditional cop drama and the story of a serial killer. Eric is an artistic young man, he's also a werewolf and a serial killer. Eric is choosy about his particluar victims though. He only kills other less powerful werewolves, werewolves who are part of his own family who believe him to be dead. Enter badass detective Will Solomon. It's Will's job to figure out what's going on, who's leaving dismembered bodies all over his city, and why on Earth the street people are claiming to see werewolves. Oh yeah, did we mention Will's wife is having an affair? With Eric!
Unable to find any images of these books on line and no time to scan and upload. I'll post some images of other stuff tommorow!

Jack Frost can bite me...
Holy friggin' great white North! It's like Alaska out here! We got a big storm in off the lake that started yesterday afternoon. I actually had to go into town early and pick up Pam from work early while it was still daylight. In the last 24 hours I've shovelled 4 times! My friggin' arms and neck are sore. One of these days I'm gonna take a picture of before and after I shovel and post it here.
I had to go shovell the back stair well and the stupid bint that lives in the basement had bags of dog shit and garbage all buried in the snow on the stairs. And her fucking Hibatchi. Why the fuck? What a dirty slob.
I managed to almost tunnel my way to the shed out back which will soon become my studio. When I get some spare money I need to get a couple cheap chairs and a space heater before I can start moving stuff out there.
Pam had to stay home today because all the highways are closed.
I am such a fruit cake...
Over the last several weeks I have done a horrible thing. I have actually started watching a soap opera. It happened when Pam was home one day. I know of the show and have seen it before even though I always have to ask Pam the name. .....Days of our lives, yeah, I think that's the one. Anyway here's the thing. This goddamn show full of medi-ocre, over the top acting got me hooked by having a mysterious serial killer kill off half of the cast. And no one is immune. People who have apparently been on this show for decades are being killed off. New and old characters alike are being slaughtered.
So anyway my dumb ass has been catching the show now and then to see what happens. Soap operas develop so slow! Anyway, I have shamelessly watched every episode this week because this is supposed to be the final week of the story. I wasn't sure, but now I know the story won't end untill tommorow's episode. I've been using my deductive reasoning to determine who the killer is. The suspects I have considered are...Um,let's see if I can remeber all of their names. um: Marlena, Jan, John, Tony, Sammy, Celeste, Lucas, Nicole, Victor, that's all I can remember. Now I've been able to piece things together and the only people it could be are John, Marlena, or Nicole. Jan is possible, but a long shot. Nicole is too predictable. I hope it's Marlena. That'd be great and then her own husband John would be forced to kill her like they've been hinting at.
Anyway it concludes tommorow and then I'll be able to quit watching this stupid damn show. Bastards used the only thing that would get someone like me to watch. Killing the whole damn cast. Anyway, the only other options are that this is all happening in someone's dream and all the cast members will be back, or they're bringing back someone from the past who hasn't even been on the show in a long time. If they do either of those I'll be left with such a bitter taste that I will never view these excuses for sub-par acting again. But let's hope it's Marlena.
Most people think it's Tony because he's been known to do bad stuff and is into samurai principles. However Tony has been saying that he knows that a woman is doing the killing. This week he was doing some samurai meditation thing and apparently had a vision of exactly who the killer was. He plans to announce it to everyone in town at a charity circus on tommorow's show, but his psychic friend Celeste says that she has seen that he will be the next victim.
It would be really sweet if a ton of people get killed in the final part. I think they could bump off Victor, Sammy, Marlena, Philip, Mimi's mom, Hope, defiantely Hope, The old lady on the show, Celeste, Jan. They could probably kill John and Tony, but I like them so I hope they don't. Sure as hell would clean out the apparent glut of characters on the show. Oh, Beau's dad can get killed too. I'll let you know how this ends tommorow and what I'll do with the extra hour per day I gain back from my life.
Smallville...
So I've finally been able to catch some new episodes of this show again. My favorite character is still Lex. They should have a Lex show. The writers did a good job in the fact that everytime Lex shows that he may turn evil or does something questionable I am disapointed. I don't want him to turn bad.
That being said however the rest of the writing this seaon went down hill after the first two episodes. I'm tired of this high school drama, secret love for Lana, different guy with a different kryptonite based power in every damn episode. These kids need to get out of school! The best stories took place when the school was removed, when the characters were on summer break. Things did get better when Lex was in the nuthouse, but now that that is over I fear the school age drama will start up again like before. Good god please let them graduate at the end of this season and move on with their lives. I'd love to write an episode of this show. I can't put my idea here, wouldn't want someone to steal it!
DO we need a review today? I think this is long enough. Reviews tommorow!
Please send me winter survival care packages...

Well, me am back, back, back! Thanks all for the recent comments.
Well I'm trying not to be a downer, but I had a ton of stuff on my mind today while I was working. But let's save that for later =)

SO on to other things...
I'm a little disgruntled and discouraged lately. A lack of support from sponsors has forced me to change the format for Independent Glimpse. It's to the point where I am actually embarassed. It's a shame because Glimpse was something I could really say that I am was really proud to be associated with in it's original form. I don't want retailers to think I'm jerking them around. Things are going slower than I'd like with paying work too.
I've been looking back on what I have and haven't gotten accomplished since I got into the comics. Part of me is really happy and positive about all the new developments coming forward. Another part of me feels like quite a failure. In my heart of hearts I feel like I've let all the guys down when it comes to SMASH! I'm surprised Jay, Andrew, and Paul (who I haven't heard form in some time) would even still want to be associated with me in any way.
I'm dead set against giving anyone else any more dissapointments. Come hell or high water Powerwus #2 & 3 will come out in February. I feel like that may not have any meaning anymore though. I expect anyone to be skeptical with all the delays we had last year.
I am really happy about all of the luck I've been having. But the Captain C thing has me also worrying at the same time. I spoke with Rich and everything is good, but also difficult. Of course he created this caracter and he's protecting his legacy. He wants this new book to be top notch and A1 in quality and production. I completely agree with him. This is a huge, huge opportunity and I wholeheartedly want to grab it and run with it, not let it slip through my fingers. At the same time I have this gnawing self-doubt as the whether I have the strength and the knowledge to pull it off. The last thing I want is this to be a failure. I would be excrutiatingly ashamed. Plus, in order to make this book all it deserves to be SMASH! really needs to move up in the world, which means new sources of financing. AAARRGH! I am so turned off of this after my horrible experience with Bizsmart. Plus money matters are quite a touchy and tight subject right now.
Also, the final premise for CC has been agreed upon. It will pick-up where the original left off. I had a few holes in my collection, plus, awhile ago I went through a stage where I never thought this would happen, and I sold a huge part of my collection. A big part of my CC collection went in that chunk. SO I searched every damn comic shop for issues, I nearly bought 7 issues online from a place in the states, but then luckily I found the entire series on sale for $29 from a store in Manitoba. SO I ordered those. This way I can re-read the entire series and make sure I don't fuck anything up. However that means more money going out! AAAA!! I hate it when the end of the month is coming. I need to put lots more hours into the building before the 30th, That may take time away from important business things though. But it pays...AAA!
I know this is not the way to move ahead. I know I have to grit my teeth and stay positive. See everything through. It's just so hard now that I'm working on the new Glimpse format. I feel like it has been a huge dissapointment to my fellow comic creators who solicited their work.
Plus some knob posted a coment about my Cap press release on one of the sites that carried it. It's obvious he has no idea what he's talking about but I'm still so enraged I want to burst.
Cancelled movie reviews...
I've been meaning to review some movies I watched recently, but it just hasn't worked out. So here is my one sentence or so on 3 different movies.
A Guy Thing - Jason Lee, Julia Styles (is cute) Good. Stealing Harvard - Jason Lee, Tom Greene, surprise twist, half-ass funny but lacking. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days - Matthew McConougey (probably spelt wrong), Kate Hudson, How to lose my interest in 10 minutes. 2 hours I'll never get back.
On a cheerier note...
Comic pal Andrew Foster has a sweet new site where you can view his strips online and updated regularly. It's at www.geocities.com/everyday_comics/
Well sorry to disapoint, but all the sunshine has been drained form my butt. I'm fresh out.
Bring on the apocalypse...
